CHILE: CASA SILVA GOES GREEN!
One of my favorite Chilean wine houses among the ones I visited in the past 2 years, Casa Silva, seems to be reading my mind. Casa Silva is a great wine house, making already some pretty good wines in the Colchagua valley, having a fantastic romantic hotel and gourmet restaurant offer, horse riding, polo and Chilean rodeo facilities, great wine cellars to visit, a wonderful old-timers museum, and not to be forgotten a terrific team of winemakers, marketing and sales people… Such a wine house has all the trumps to go for the very best! And they are going to do it! General Manager Mario Pablo Silva declared to the international press in London (source: Ricardo E.Brizuela, www.diariodelvino.com, 23-02-2010) that Casa Silva will convert 130 ha of its vineyards from conventional to organic viticulture in the next 3 years, the rest of the vineyards should follow later on. This is not only to please some very demanding export markets, he said, but in the first place to reduce the CO2 emissions impact on the viticulture and improve their own environment politic.
A great and courageous step for Casa Silva, another big step forwards for the Chilean wine industry.
